The city Minya is the capital district of Al Minya. City name is a derivative of the Egyptian word “Men’atKhufu,” but the name could also come from the city name in Coptic Sahid (Tmoone) and Bohairi (Thmone).

The last name could also refer to a famous ancient Egyptian tradition, or near one of the ancient sites, known as Bride of the Nile. It is a ceremonial slaughter statue of a woman immersed in the river Nile, which is a wife offered to receive the annual floods earlier and they are stronger.

Of all places, the city used to be preferred Minya infinitely more than Mallawi as a starting point for excursions. Provincial capital, has caused considerable charm of old houses built by Italian architects to Egyptian and Greek tycoons of cotton.

City of the Dead: Also known as El Mayyiteen Zawiyet. It is called the largest graveyard in the world. Dead City is located a short distance by taxi from downtown Minya.

Virgin Monastery: The monastery, located on the east side of the Nile from Minya and a 30-minute journey by car in the north is no longer inhabited. Trips or tourists who went to this place in the eighteenth century, described it as a place where monks lived poor families with normal, and where all people were naked. Today’s left a small church, whose interior is largely cut directly into the rock. Pillars form a square courtyard in front of a little holy common platform, where the curtain keeps hands away from the holy articles nehirotoniti. But you can see them all through a hole.

In Minya there are few places (dining) that merits consideration. For example: Lotus Hotel offers good meals, but the best desserts, kebabs and chicken products are sold at Aly Baba cafe, north of the prefecture building. Savoy Restaurant, near the Savoy Hotel, is also a kebab and kofta good place, while Sabah al-Kheer, located across the street offers “fuul” (Traditional food items of beans, olive oil, parsley, garlic sauce lemon) and cheap eggs. Both markets offer Minya main usual range of coffees, kushari and grilled chicken to take the package.
