Travel Guide to Orlando

Aug, 25 || 1 Comment |

The sunniest land in the Sunshine State, the summers in Orlando are right out of a perfect happy book, and summer nights are even more fairytale like with a sprinkle of sparkles and fireworks. Not that a quintessential day in the life of an Orlandonian always ends with fireworks over the castle at Disney World; but for a visitor, it takes very little time to fall in love with this sunshiny city after spending the entire day in thwacking flip flops by the pool with a big floppy hat and a bottomless glass of wine and ending the day with coloured sparkling skies.

Before you take off make sure you search for cheap flights to Orlando on a couple of price comparison websites as rates can vary widely. These days a number of websites also offer a live flight tracker option, which is incomparable.

Ten Things To Do in Orlando, USA

  1. Take a boat ride around the Winter Park Area. This place is known as the Venice of America, and it’s quite undoubted. Little canals meeting each other, flowing through different parks and meeting in large confluences surrounded by beautiful big trees and perfect little buildings. And what’s better to do than prop up by the shore of some pretty park and lay your very own picnic under the sun. There’s a ton of other lakes around Orlando that a worth a boat ride, Lake Eola being another one of the bunch – there’s a public art project on the park near this lake that’s supposed to be brilliant. Try catching the sun set on Lake Killarney.
  2. Bicycle down the West Orange Trail. It’s a perfect sunny day expedition with for a walk, or for biking or jogging or even rollerblading. You could even choose to take the Trail and visit old town Florida or the Oakland Nature Preserve and the beautiful Winter Garden.
  3. Drink some really different beers at Redlight Redlight Beer Parlour. This place has the best selection of sour beers in the southeast with a wide range of vintage beers as well. Orlando has a ton of great quirky places to eat and drink. Here’s just a little list of the coveted places – Black Bean Deli for their Cuban sandwiches, Drunken Monkey for their cookies, Yellow Dog Eats for their pulled pork sandwiches with the perfect barbeque sauce, Pom Pom’s Teahouse and Sandwicheria for a big fat no holiday Thanksgiving sandwich, Ollie’s for their unusual ‘dirty’ shots. The list goes on.
  4. Canoe down the Wekiwa Springs or take a refreshing swim to beat the dancing sun in these lovely waters. The Wekiwa River is billed as Florida’s only Federal and State designated wild and scenic rivers and a kayak adventure just minutes away from Orlando is the perfect getaway from all the touristy places, if you need a break from the entire crowd.
  5. Maitland Art Center – It’s not one of the biggest, but it’s definitely one of the most beautiful Art Centers around town. Set amongst quaint little parks and little ponds, this is one of those places that makes you feel like creating something artistic just by being there.
  6. Kennedy Space Center – Because where else would you sit in a cockpit of a space shuttle and be able to buy a space blanket and eat icecream that looks like mini planets. Also because it’s one of those places that you absolutely must visit when in Orlando.
  7. The Lakeridge Winery and Vineyards is known to be the largest vineyard in Florida and an afternoon spent here with their best bottle of sparkling is a perfect way of spending those summer days in the city.
  8. Popcorn Flicks in Winter Park are outdoor movies throughout the summer in Winter Park. The idea of spending summer nights watching movies while picnicking in the pretty park while fireflies light the dark skies makes for a perfect date.
  9. If there were ever a city dedicated to enjoyment and adventure, Orlando would be it. There are so many adventure activities in this city to choose from – skydiving, rock climbing, airboating, ballooning, horse riding, diving and snorkeling, fishing – you name the adventure, and you can experience it here.
  10. When you want to take a day off and wear mickey ears and experience tornadoes and earthquakes and explore haunted houses and drink a little butter beer, there are a number of places you could go to right here in this one city. Disney World, Universal Studios, Epcot Center, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Legends – The Haunted House, Wonder Works, Sea World, Discovery Cove – this city was built for amusement and adventure parks, and you will not be disappointed. End your day with those fireworks I was telling you about, and you won’t want the skies to stop sparkling. It’s the little ‘happily ever after’ hope that the skies above the castle try to make you believe.
